Edgewater, Colorado: A Cannabis Success Story

Even if you live in or around Denver, you might not be very familiar with the little municipality of Edgewater. The “water” to which the name refers is Sloan’s Lake, and the town does indeed sit at the edge of the lake – or rather across Sheridan Boulevard from the lake.

The little town is home to about 5,300 people, and covers less than one square mile of land. In addition to the charming homes and surprising number of quaint pubs and restaurants, Edgewater is home to six cannabis dispensaries (including The Green Solution®). Given that roughly 30 percent of the town’s residents are minors, that means there’s a dispensary for every 600 or so adults. What has that meant for the town? Money, and lots of it.

In 2016, Edgewater made $1.4 million in cannabis tax proceeds. That’s over 20 percent of the town’s annual budget. The plan is to use cannabis tax revenue to cover a large portion of the cost of a new 40,000 square-foot civic center. The building will house a new city hall, police station, fitness center, and library.

Why not make Edgewater and Sloan’s Lake a destination this weekend? We suggest visiting TGS at 6020 W. 20th Avenue to stock up, then heading to Joyride Brewing for their 3rd Anniversary Extravaganza on Saturday. The always-bustling brewery at 25th Ave and Sheridan Boulevard is hosting three food trucks and seven bands from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on July 15th, and bills the event as the biggest party Edgewater has ever seen.

Or if crowds aren’t your thing, you can head to Sloan’s Lake Park for a picnic or a walk after your trip to TGS. The park is the second largest in Denver (City Park is the largest), and is a great place to watch birds (and people).

The Green Solution is proud to be part of the Edgewater story. Come check out what we – and this little town on the edge of Denver – have to offer.
