Netflix and…Smoke?

Netflix is really capitalizing on the predilection of some people to enjoy cannabis while they chill and watch the entertainment giant’s programming.

First, they’ve introduced a new comedy called “Disjointed” that’s set in a Southern California dispensary. The show was created by David Javerbaum and TV legend Chuck Lorre (who created “Two and a Half Men” and “The Big Bang Theory”), and if you’re looking for revolutionary entertainment, don’t look here. It’s much more like “The Big Bang Theory” and such standard classic, laugh track-backed sitcoms than it is like other, more groundbreaking Netflix fare.

The show stars the magnificent Kathy Bates as aging hippy Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, the owner of the aforementioned dispensary. The rest of the characters are the usual goofy sitcom suspects – including a ridiculous growmaster named Pete who fits every stoner stereotype you can imagine, and budtender Jenny, who bills herself as the “tokin’ Asian.”

The only truly redeemable part of this show is the subplot involving the security guard who suffers from PTSD, revealed in animated sequences that are nothing short of disturbing.

All in all, I have to agree with CNN critic Brian Lowry who pronounced “there’s not enough weed in the Golden State to wring consistent laughs from a show that’s mostly as stale as an unwashed bong.”

The second way that Netflix is trying to cash in on cannabis is by introducing a selection of 10 boutique marijuana strains inspired by their shows. The strains were offered for a limited time at a pop-up shop inside the Alternative Herbal Health Services dispensary in West Hollywood.

“Each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone,” Netflix said in a statement. “For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate.”

At The Green Solution, we offer way more than 10 strains to pair with your favorite form of entertainment – be it hiking, making art, or yes, even Netflix. Stop by any of our stores to find a cannabis product to match your favorite activities.
