It’s June in Denver, and that means the days are long and full of sunshine, the snow is (probably) behind us, and there’s free fun to be had every weekend. It’s the perfect opportunity to enjoy a NectarBee® edible and explore some of the offerings of our magnificent city (of course, you should use public transportation or a designated driver to get around town – The Green Solution® does not condone driving under the influence).
Start your weekend at the Art District on Sante Fe’s First Friday Art Walk and enjoy the work of hundreds of artists at over 40 galleries and studios. Also along this stretch of Sante Fe Drive between Alameda and 12th Avenues you’ll find dozens of restaurants, bars, and food trucks to keep your spirits up while you stroll. The Art Walk lasts from 5:30 – 9:30, and free guided shuttle coaches are available at the light rail station at 10th and Osage Street.
On Saturday, don’t miss Free First Saturday at the Denver Art Museum (DAM). It only happens a dozen times a year, and it’s a great opportunity to escape the heat and peruse the DAM’s collection of more than 70,000 works of art at no cost (museum admission is generally $10 for Colorado residents and $13 for out of state visitors).
After your visit to the DAM, take the short stroll to Civic Center Park for the People’s Fair, Denver’s oldest neighborhood festival. The annual event has been happening since 1972 and credits its longevity and success to “blending great family fun, carefully selected handmade arts & crafts, delicious culinary delights, and fabulous entertainment.” The festival is free, and happens on Saturday, June 3rd from 10 to 8, and Sunday, June 4th from 10 to 7.
Another free annual festival you won’t want to miss is the Denver Chalk Festival in Larimer Square, where hundreds of artists use pastel chalks to create temporary masterpieces on the pavement over four downtown blocks. Add to the art live music and food and beverage vendors, and you’re guaranteed a spectacular time. The festival happens on Saturday, June 3rd from 10 to 10 and Sunday, June 4th from 10 to 7.
No matter what your destination this weekend, start your journey at The Green Solution®, and we’ll get you stocked up for summer fun.
